FOI request, ref 3,500 new homes for Shippon?

By   1 October 2016

14/10/16,

Today, we received a response to our FOI. Many thanks to Ms Moore for her prompt reply.

Dear Abingdon First

Thank you for your request for information under the Environmental Information Regulations (2004), as follows:

“Could you please confirm whether MOD land, (the old gliding club land (along Barrow rd, Shippon) has been sold to a developer, and are there plans to build some 3,500 houses there?

Wouldn’t this then render the Northern plan (for land at the “circus field” and either side of Tilsely Park, adjacent to the A34, up to Lodge Hill), totally unnecessary, because the Vales housing quota will be exceeded by the Shippon development?

We look forward to your response on this matter, considering the woefully inadequate infrastructure around North Abingdon”

Vale of White Horse District Council Response:

The Council is not aware of any sale of MOD land for development purposes, nor of any plans for housing development at this site.

You may be aware that the Council has proposed development on two sites referred to as North Abingdon and North West Abingdon within the Local Plan 2031: Part 1, which has been subject to examination. The Planning Inspector’s Interim Report (June 2016) states that he considers these sites to be soundly based. The Council anticipates receipt of the Inspector’s Final Report later in 2016.

You may also be aware that the Council has now started to progress work on preparing the Local Plan 2031: Part 2, which will address the quantum of Oxford’s housing need that is apportioned to the Vale of White Horse. The Council undertook a ‘call for sites’ exercise during the summer this year and the submitted sites are currently being examined. The Council is required, in accordance with National Planning Policy Guidance, to assess all sites across the district capable of accommodating at least 5 dwellings. The results of this work will be published alongside the ‘Preferred Options’ consultation document of the Local Plan 2031 Part 2 in February 2017. At present, the Council has made no decisions on which sites may be suitable for allocation within the Local Plan 2031 Part 2.

I trust this helps to answer your question. Further details of the Local Plan is available on the Council website at: http://www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/services-and-advice/planning-and-building/planning-policy/new-local-plan-2031”.

Many thanks and kind regards

Becky Moore

Today we submitted a new FOI request to VOWHDC as it was brought to our attention that MOD land along Barrow road, Shippon, has been sold for housing development.

We will bring you the VOWHDC response as soon as they reply.
